In 1953 at the age 24, Jesse C. Bollinger Jr. developed his first subdivision with George Martin, Thoroughbred Acres, 49 lot development which sold out in one year. He has been busy building and developing ever since.
He and his partners have worked in all sectors of real estate with projects including land development, single-family homes, apartments, shopping centers, nursing homes, industrial properties, and even Louisville’s first downtown motel.
Bollinger-Martin Builders developed over 23 subdivisions and built over 1800+ homes in Louisville, Lexington, Orlando and Winter Park, FL areas.
They were named one of the top ten builders in the country for the innovative design of its homes and were cited in several leading publications such as Life Magazine, The New York Times, Fortune, and Good Housekeeping.
He still involved many land development partnerships with lot costs ranging from $40,000 to $475,000.
Starting in 1969, in partnership with Ed Peter and Paul Hensley he built over 1000 apartments in the Lexington area. In the late 60’s he formed Commercial Property Associates with Paul McCoy, Larry Moon and Paul Lockhart. For many years they were Kroger and Winn Dixie’s developers of choice, building eight shopping centers in Louisville, Clarksville, TN, and Oxford, Mississippi. They traveled all over the Midwest purchasing and developing McDonalds and KFC sites. In their shopping centers, Kroger and Winn Dixie have since moved on to their super center prototypes, but they still own and manage five of these eight centers where occupancy levels continue to remain high. They also built, operated, managed and eventually sold seven nursing homes in the Louisville, Lexington and Clarksville, TN areas.
In 1986 with Paul Bollinger, Ed Peter, Frank Taylor and Reed Boone, he helped form Riverport Commerce Company which built and operated over 2 million square feet of warehouse space. With various partnerships he still owns and help manage several industrial properties totaling more than 500,000sf.
Jesse was one of the original founders of the Healing Place in Louisville, KY, built the original facility, and was instrumental in the construction of additional facilities and campuses thereafter.
He was recently awarded the March of Dimes – 2010 Commercial Real Estate Lifetime Achievement Award for his lifelong dedication and contributions to the real estate industry of Louisville.
